Its the handwritten note on the back of a photo taken of me as a child. Probably written by my father. I don't have a scan of it, but I'm wearing my usual shit-eating grin.
And that's as quick an origin as you'll find anywhere.

Hi Stuart-
I found a birthday card you gave me when I was 14 and a freshman at Hightstown High school in 1976 and it made me laugh. I'm so glad to see you doing so well with your writing (dare I mention SMOWN)?
Wishing you continuing success for the future. Vikki Mason
Vikki! Great to hear from you. How are you?
Really well, older but wiser. Still living in Hightstown (how's that for irony) still working in theatre (at the McCarter in Princeton). I have three children, a cranky ex-husband, three cats and two rats. I'm the ring master of an unruly flying circus, so life's never dull. Do you ever hear from any one else from the old days?
I didn't have anywhere else to put this, so I guess this is the best place. Basically, I just finished reading your run on Firestorm and wanted to tell you how very much I enjoyed it. I'm an extremely critical person, from music to movies, and yes, comic books as well. Your run with Jason Rusch and his excellent supporting cast was so personable, dynamic, relatable, intricate, inventine and exciting, I'm sorry I missed it the first time around. From moments as human as dealing with his father, to moments as fanboy indulgent as rebuilding the Firestorm matrix during Infinite Crisis, every line seemed infused with both delicacy and rambunctious fun.
THANKS MUCH!
Wow - thank YOU, very much. That's great to hear. Some of these books seem so ephemeral -- it's terrific when people come across them later and enjoy them.
You may already know this, but I'm about to begin a new monthly at Marvel featuring NAMOR, their underwater prince. A very different character from Firestorm, but I'm having fun with it. I talk about it here, and there's an art preview here.
Thanks again!
